Powertec Design is a French brand created in 2008 by a French entrepreneur who previously worked for 10 years in the consumer electronics and mobile phone sectors.
We were soon confronted with the issue of the growing number of electronic devices in our daily lives, and with it the question of autonomy when the batteries run down…
In 2008, he came up with the idea of a small, flexible, solar-powered charger with a USB port as its connector… the first USB solar charger was born!
Since then, we’ve continued to design high-performance, long-lasting professional solar chargers.

About electronics
- Our panels are now equipped with an auto-re-start function to restart charging in the event of a drop in voltage (cloudy conditions).
- We’ve also integrated LEDs to indicate whether your panel is properly exposed to light and therefore provides the maximum charge.
Meaning of the PTFlap LEDs
The LEDs allow you to check that your panel is supplying electricity (morning / evening / cloudy skies).
On the PTFlap series (except 2023), the panel is fitted with 2 LEDs which display different colours to indicate the following:
- Right LED lights up red: the panel is producing electricity.
- Optimising exposure to the sun :
– Blue/Violet: provides between 50 and 75% of the sun’s rays
– Green: generates the maximum
On the PTFlap 2023 series (PT8 / PT16 & PT24)
The USB connector incorporates a blue LED that lights up when sufficient power is being generated.
On production: ETFE protection + double EVA lamination

The packaging
In a bid to demonstrate its ‘green conscience’, Powertec has redesigned the packaging blister packs for its professional solar chargers. How do you get rid of these plastic blisters?
In response to this topical issue, in 2008 the company came up with an ‘intelligent’ cardboard box made from PEFC paper and printed with vegetable-based ink, identifying each product and enabling it to be hung on the shelf at all times. This generates production savings thanks to a reduction in the number of materials used, a reduction in weight during transport and the elimination of plastic. This means 65% less paper consumption and 60% less water, energy and fuel consumption. So much for the ecological impact.
In 2012, when it launched its new range of compact but heavier products, Powertec could no longer use these environmentally-friendly but fragile cardboard boxes.
Then came the idea of reusable packaging: a PVC bag which, by cutting out the hook on which it could be hung in our retailers’ shelves, could be used throughout the life of the product (and our panels are made to last a very long time) to store and protect all the mobile charging elements…
