• Hiking

The backpack is the necessary accessory for any hike…
To have your hands free when moving on uneven terrain, when sliding, when climbing, when hiking is an obvious choice.

The backpack has made its mark on the outdoor world

Its usefulness has been proven.
Its size and its bedding have been adapted in all sorts of ways.
The way it is attached, the number of straps, the number of pockets, its waterproofness, its weight, all these parameters have been adapted in all forms.

Moreover, it is difficult to ask a real outdoor man to change his old backpack. This companion is part of adventures and it is often very complicated to make the experienced adventurer change his bag.

Some people decorate their backpacks with stickers, badges of the countries they have visited and the adventures they have had. The backpack thus becomes the living memory of the traveller.

The backpack has also become a lifestyle product

Because it is also practical, it was necessary to add a layer of elegance to the “Outdoor” backpack in order to make it part of everyday life.

In the 80’s, the famous “US Bag” appeared and was a real hit with students. Easily found in army surplus, this khaki bag also became a territory of unlimited expression for its owner who personalised it with rock bands, poems, quotes etc…

Having become an obvious object for all schoolchildren, several rather technical brands of luggage or “outdoor” objects follow suit by introducing trendy colours and ever more interesting materials…

The eco-friendly backpack in the 2000s.

It wasn’t until the 2000s that environmental awareness got the better of overconsumption that upcycled products (recycled materials) emerged, or products made mainly from plastic bottles.

This is the case of the Ticket To The Moon backpacks, which from the end of the 90s are made with the scraps of the hammocks of the homonymous brand. The desire to produce beautiful, colourful, resistant bags (made of nylon silk – an indestructible material used to produce parachutes) and hand-sewn to complete a guarantee of quality.

Mont Logan Expedition

Indeed, from the 16W Tactic Pack imagined by Powertec, we have a portable battery storage unit , 30.000mA / h @ 4.5A max and allowing the recharging in particular of all electronic devices that have a 12V charging system by car cigar lighter socket.
The PT111 battery can be recharged via any 12V Powertec solar panels:
– PT16Flap Duam Output (5V & 12V) solar charger
– or by our latest PT21 USB-C   Tri Output panel (we have added a nativ USB-C, 3Amp @ 5V  to the existing 5V and 12V .
With these 2 panels, you can load your 12V batteries in 6 to 7 hours.
The battery will thus constitute a reserve of energy to charge or power your DJI Mavic Drones batteries.

The “pass-through” system here takes on its full meaning for a solar charging station: the solar panel charges the Powertec battery which recharges the Mavic batteries.

The latest fully autonomous expeditions have benefited from this technology in order to be able to power their drones during their journey which lasted more than 40 days in total autonomy.
The drone, which has become an effective means of reconnaissance to trace its route in perilous places such as glaciers or rugged trails, thus becomes an object of comfort and safety beyond taking photos and videos which it is difficult to do without.
Thus, Powertec who proudly celebrated its 12th anniversary a few months ago, has established itself in the very competitive market for solar solutions.
Its uniqueness in offering its solar charging solutions makes it the specialist in DJI Mavic Drone charging by portable solar solution.

We accompany several major expeditions each year in their conquest of new spaces, and allows them to face these new adventures in complete safety.

Hiking equipment will no longer be a secret for you.

Summer is the right time to go for a walk in the nature to work on your endurance or to recharge your batteries in the heart of the most beautiful landscapes of France or any other country. Alone, with family or friends, hiking, trekking, trail, etc. with several nights should not be prepared lightly, especially if you do not sleep in a refuge. In this article, you will discover the hiking equipment necessary for your survival, your safety and your comfort for an autonomous hike.

Think first about the hiking food

The first thing to think about when hiking is food and water. Take something to eat, including dehydrated food and cereal bars, but also utensils (plates, cutlery, multipurpose knife, cup, etc.). To heat your supplies or simply to warm up, the flint (also called fire starter) will be perfect to light a fire easily with small wood and a knife..

Stay hydrated with an insulated water bottle to keep the water cool or a filter bottle. Worried about running out of water? Pack a water treatment solution for your reusable bottle.

The hiking clothes to choose

Hiking clothes are important, especially to protect yourself from cold or insects. It must be comfortable, waterproof and adapted to all weather conditions as well as to hiking: jacket, pants, socks, shoes, hat, sunglasses, etc. Think also of breathable T-shirts that allow to evacuate perspiration. To stay warm, opt for thermal clothing, a fleece, a hat, gloves, etc..

A well organized hiking bivouac

The backpacking camp will be the place to relax and survive after a long day of hiking. Here is the equipment for your camp:

– Small tent,
– Sleeping bag adapted to the outside temperature,
– Self-inflating mattress,
Waterproof headlamp and/or rechargeable flashlight,
– Survival blanket,
– Protection against insects (for example a mosquito net).

We also advise you to bring a portable charger to install in your bivouac which can take the form of a foldable solar panel. Thanks to this solar charger, you will be able to recharge your electronic devices quickly and easily, by USB cable.

Survival accessories to take with you

Sleeping in the wilderness can be a real survival, sometimes in a hostile environment. Therefore, it is sometimes necessary to bring a few survival items in your backpack such as an emergency whistle. For your orientation, use a compass and a map of the area where you are going. In case of a small or big injury, the health kit will not be too much for you.

Do not forget the electronic devices for hiking

Electronic devices are not left out and can be very useful like the hiking GPS or the GPS watch that you can recharge with an external portable powerbank battery itself charged with a usb solar charger.

Powertec offers all these quality products for your hikes with the only concern of allowing you to connect and charge all your devices for the greatest energy autonomy and in the greatest respect of the planet!

If there’s one thing that many mobile workers expect, it’s to be able to charge their Mac in full autonomy while travelling.

This breed of portable PC is quite special. Just like its cousins the iPod, Iphone or iPad Apple has always been quite complicated to charge because of

  1. a connector system of its own
  2. power-hungry features or batteries powerful enough to give it sufficient autonomy

Also the challenge has always been great, but Powertec engineers have succeeded in a tour de force by relying on the new technology of USB PD.

The USB type C PD, the solution to charge a Mac comfortably

Indeed, this new connector can provide energy and power such that we manage to charge the Mac Book type MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 45W 60W 85W and sizes ranging from 12, 13 to 15 inches.

Powertec’s latest battery, the PT111/USB Type C PD has this port to optimize charging power to Macs that normally use 20V and 100W mains chargers. Weighing only 790g, it will be perfect to take with you on all your travels.

Using a USB-C to Magsafe 2 cable and plugging it into the USB-C PD port of the latest PT111 battery, it’s done…

But then, you might ask? How do you connect this battery if not to the mains?

This is where the latest Powertec charger from the PT Flap range comes into play: the PT21 – USB Type C.
Once again, the careful electronics of this 600g solar panel allow us to innovate by offering, as standard, a triple output with a 2.4A USB port, a 3A USB-C port and a DC5521 port for 12/15V connection to a cigar lighter or other DC wiring.

By connecting the Type-C port directly to the Type-C port of the PT111 battery, you get a fast and convenient charge so you can charge everything on the other 3 available ports…

All you have to do is go to the desert, the mountains or the Arctic,as the adventurers we accompany on their expeditions do, thanks to this autonomous solar energy kit capable of charging everything, in the hottest and coldest temperatures…as long as there is light!

The beginnings of Powertec: Pioneering Portable Solar Technology

Ten years ago, Powertec began shaping the future of portable solar technology. It was 2008, a time when companies like Solariflex and Brunton, as well as Powertec, realized the growing importance of mobile power, spurred by the rapid spread of cell phones. Our mission was clear from the start: to develop USB solar chargers that are as light, powerful and compact as possible.

The price challenge: Technical product or Mass Market?

Beyond compactness, lightness and power, the question of price quickly became a determining factor. Would the cost be low enough to make the solar charger a mass market product, or would it be reserved for a niche of “technical products”?

Initial barriers: high costs and emerging technology

The early years were marked by revolutionary technology, but at a prohibitive cost. The materials needed, such as solar cells, and the know-how were both expensive and new. Although our solar chargers were revolutionary in terms of weight, durability and flexibility. Their high price was a major barrier to widespread adoption.

The turning point: lowering costs and improving efficiency

A few years later, a combination of factors led to a major turning point. Manufacturing costs began to fall, the efficiency of solar cells improved. Our expertise in miniaturizing electronics advanced.

This allowed Powertec to launch one of the first USB solar chargers capable of delivering 1000mA at a price of around €100. Our competitor, Solariflex, has taken a similar route, helping to raise market awareness of this new technology.

Powertec: Reliable Supplier of Quality Solar Chargers

Today, we are proud to offer our customers quality products backed by a three-year warranty. The reliability of our solar chargers is such that the failure rate is almost zero. Their robustness has been tested and proven, allowing us to fulfill our mission.

A Sustainable and Reliable Source of Energy

At Powertec, we are committed to providing our customers with a sustainable and reliable source of energy. We want you to be able to rely on our products to provide you with energy, wherever you are, whatever the circumstances, for many years to come.

That’s our mission for sustainable products and renewable energy, and we’re proud to say that we’re fulfilling it every day.

Powertec’s Future: Continuing to Innovate in Solar Energy

As we celebrate our tenth anniversary, we remain committed to innovation in solar energy. We will continue to improve the compactness, power and efficiency of our solar chargers, while keeping them affordable for the general public.

The future is bright for Powertec, and we look forward to what the next ten years will bring.
